Breast enlargement procedures are performed under general anaesthetic and take between 30 minutes -1 hour in theatre. The procedure is typically a day case however if you would prefer to stay in the hospital over night this can be arranged. You will need someone to collect you from the Hospital and support you on your journey home. We advise travelling via car and not to take public transport.  You should plan to take 7-14 days off work following your surgery, depending on how physical your job is.  While most patients find the pain to be tolerable, you will still need time to rest post-surgery

Patients should expect bruising and swelling to the breasts and surrounding areas and may experience tightness, discomfort and sensitivity following their procedure. Pain should subside after 7-14 days and pain relief will be prescribed to ease any discomfort. 

During your recovery, which typically lasts around six weeks, you will wear a compression garment and refrain from exercising or engaging in strenuous activity. It's important to sleep on your back or side during this time. After one week, you should be in minimal discomfort and be able to return to light duties at work. Following post-operative care instructions, such as wearing a supportive bra as directed and attending follow-up appointments with your surgeon, will help to ensure the best possible outcome.

Every patient’s breast enlargement journey is different, Dr De Leo will discuss and recommend the best implant size and placement for you based on your physical requirements, body shape, existing breast tissue and your desired result.

• Size – Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (or CC’s for short), not in cup sizes, for example: 250cc or 300cc. 

• Shape – There are two shapes of implants round or anatomical (also known as teardrop). Anatomical implants do have the added risk of rotation due to the shape of the implant therefore round implants are generally the preference for patients and Dr De Leo.

• Placement – The placement of breast implants is whether the implant is placed partially under the muscle or over the muscle, described as submuscular, subglandular.

• Profile/Projection – The profile of breast implants refers to how much it projects forward when you are standing and is described as low, moderate, high or ultra high profile. 
• Subglandular - Is suitable for patients who have a sufficient amount of  breast tissue to fully cover the implant. 

• Submuscular - Placing the implant partially underneath the muscle helps reduce the risk of rippling, capsular contracture and is often recommended to those who have little breast tissue and need to prevent rippling and visibility of the implant.
