About Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck is aimed at removing the excess adipose tissue and skin folds in the central and low abdomen, to stretch abdominal wall and improve a prominent abdomen appearance. This surgery is particularly suited for those patients who, after several pregnancies, have excessively "stretched" abdominal skin and muscles.

As a rule, two incisions are needed: one, in the lower portion of the abdomen, just above the pubic hair line, which extends laterally to the hips; the other, small, circular, around the navel, because very often the operation requires the repositioning of the navel to a more natural position. With the patient in semi-flexed position, the excess skin and fat are removed, then the surgeon sutures on multiple layers and two suction drains are inserted. The patient is moved back to horizontal position and through a half-moon or v-shaped incision, the navel is extracted and sutured.

Compressive dressing complete the surgical procedure.

For a few months, the patient will experience a decrease in the sensitivity of the skin above the scar and a swelling in the lower third of the abdomen. These symptoms, however, will disappear over time.
