Breast reconstruction after mastectomy, various malformations

Breast reconstruction is a surgical intervention that allows recreating a new breast after post-tumor mastectomy. Breast reconstruction can occur at the same time as the mastectomy, in agreement with the oncologist, but this depends mainly on patient’s wishes and doctors’ opinion. Besides, breast reconstruction does not interfere with chemotherapy or radiotherapy and has considerable psychological relevance, especially after cancer removal.

There are different surgery techniques aimed at mammary reconstruction: prosthetic implants are the latest generation: safe and of good quality, they offer more natural and lasting results. Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and has a variable duration, depending on the cases extent. After the operation, it will be necessary to wait for at least 24 hours before the drains are withdrawn.

Stitches are generally made of biodegradable material and it is not therefore necessary to remove them, while it will be necessary to wear an elastic girdle for 10-15 days.
