What is it?
Rhizarthrosis is a disease affecting the joint of the thumb. Inflammation wears the cartilage surface that becomes rough and uneven, causing finger’s axis deviation
Among the most common causes:
- Unknown origin
- Articular aging
- Rheumatoid arthritis
What are the symptoms
- Pain localized at the base of the thumb worsened by use
- Tenderness to acupressure at the base of the finger
- Difficulty opening a bottle or turning a key
- Swelling at the wrist
- Hand profile deformation Tingling
- Hand stiffness and difficulty moving hand, especially in the morning
They can be completely silent
How is it treated?
Initially, conservative treatment is recommended, including physiokinesiotherapy, medications and infiltrations (corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, stem cells). In cases where the pain is severe, several surgical interventions can be carried out, depending on disease severity Subsequently, physiotherapy is recommended to promote healing. In some cases, it is necessary to wear a brace for 21 days.
